Transferring data from an Android device to an iPhone can seem daunting if you go about it blindly. But don’t worry, we’ll guide you through the process step-by-step. This guide will help you transfer your data from Android to iPhone smoothly without losing your files.
How to Transfer Data from Android to iPhone Using the “Move to iOS” App?
First, make sure that the Wi-Fi module on your Android device is turned on. Then, check if your iPhone has enough storage to accommodate the files from your Android device. On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage to see the available space. Also, check the space used on your Android device; you can usually find this in Settings > System > Storage depending on the phone manufacturer.
Here’s how to transfer data from an Android device to a new iPhone:
- Install the “Move to iOS” app on your Android device from the Google Play Store.
- Connect both your iPhone and Android device to their chargers and ensure they remain connected throughout the transfer process.
- Turn on your new iPhone. If it’s a brand-new device, you’ll see the “Hello” screen.
Once you have prepared both devices, follow these steps:
- After turning on both devices and placing them near each other, follow the on-screen instructions on the Apple device. When you reach the “Quick Start” screen, choose Set Up Manually. Continue following the prompts until you reach the Apps & Data screen.
- On the Apps & Data screen, select Move Data from Android. If your iPhone has already been set up, you will need to erase it or transfer the content manually (more on this later).
- Open the “Move to iOS” app on your Android device and follow the on-screen instructions: Continue > Agree to the terms and conditions.
- When the Move from Android screen appears on your iPhone, tap Continue and a code will appear. Enter this code on your Android device. If your Android device warns you about a weak internet connection, you can ignore this.
- A temporary Wi-Fi network will be created. Accept the request to connect and start transferring your information.
- Select the data you want to transfer on your Android device and tap Continue. Ignore any premature completion notifications on your Android device until the loading bar on your iPhone completes. The duration of the transfer depends on the volume of data being moved.
What data can be transferred?
Photos, videos, contacts, files, folders, some settings, and even free apps available on both Google Play and the App Store can be transferred. This method also supports transferring WhatsApp data from Android to iPhone. However, PDF files, music, and books need to be transferred manually. To transfer your Chrome bookmarks, ensure the browser on your Android device is updated to the latest version.
- Once the loading bar on your iPhone is full, tap Done on your Android device and Continue on your iPhone. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish setting up your iPhone.
Important: Do not interrupt the “Move to iOS” screen on your Android device until the transfer is complete. Even if you receive a call during the process, it might cause the transfer to fail.
The method described above is suitable for transferring data from Android to iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15, as well as Pro versions like the iPhone 11 Pro and beyond.
How to Transfer Data from Android to iOS if Your iPhone is Already Set Up?
You have two options: you can use the “Move to iOS” app or transfer the data manually.
To use the “Move to iOS” app, you need to erase all content on your iPhone first. This can be done by going to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.
If you prefer to transfer data manually, you will need to put in a bit more effort. The process differs for copying photos, music, or calendars. For example, the best way to transfer photos and videos is by using iCloud Photos, which requires a computer. If you have a Mac, download the Android File Transfer app. For more details, you can read about it here.
How to Transfer Your Phone Number, SIM Card, or eSIM from Android to iPhone?
You can handle this easily. If you have a physical SIM card, simply insert it into the appropriate slot on your iPhone during the data transfer process. Note that recent iPhone models use the nano SIM format. You can cut your SIM card to fit or contact your carrier for assistance. The same applies to eSIMs; your iPhone will prompt you to transfer your number at the start of the data copying process. Alternatively, your carrier can help with this.
How to Transfer Data from Android to iPad?
iOS and iPadOS are very similar, so the steps for transferring data to an Apple tablet are the same as for an iPhone.
