In the fall of 2024, Apple introduced new wireless headphones—the AirPods 4, available in two versions: with and without noise cancellation. The model with ANC was immediately compared to the AirPods Pro 2. But are they really that similar, and which one should you choose? Let’s figure it out.
Design, Size, and Ergonomics: Which is Better?
The cases of both models are very similar: white plastic with Apple’s signature minimalist design. However, when you hold the case in your hand, you’ll notice that the new AirPods 4 are more compact and lighter. They fit even in the smallest pocket of your jeans.
AirPods 4
The designs of the earbuds themselves differ significantly. AirPods 4 are earbud-style: they stay in the outer ear and don’t go deep inside. AirPods Pro 2 are in-ear vacuum “plugs”: they fit snugly like earplugs, directing sound straight into the ear canal. The silicone tips block out external noise and help emphasize bass. Some people find the vacuum sensation uncomfortable, while others don’t mind. Though AirPods Pro feature a vent system to balance pressure, it’s ideal to try both models before buying. You can test and buy AirPods 4 or AirPods Pro 2 at iSpace.

Technology and Sound: Is There a Difference?
AirPods 4 are available in two versions: with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and without it. Both are equipped with the H2 chip and support lossless audio for high-quality sound. The version without ANC is more suitable for quiet environments and lacks wireless charging and the speaker built into the case for the “Find My” function.
AirPods Pro 2
It makes sense to compare the AirPods 4 with ANC to the AirPods Pro 2, as they share almost identical features. Both models boast advanced microphones, adaptive audio, transparency mode, head-tracking controls, and, of course, active noise cancellation. However, noise isolation differs between them: the silicone tips of the AirPods Pro 2 offer a tighter fit, blocking out ambient sound more effectively.
AirPods Pro 2 also have exclusive features not found in the AirPods 4, such as the ability to check your hearing and activate hearing protection.
Both models deliver balanced, versatile sound with rich bass and frequencies. Despite the difference in design, sound detail is impressive. Whether you prefer pop, classical, or rock, AirPods have a built-in equalizer to fine-tune the audio to your liking.

Battery Life
Both models have similar battery life but with some differences. AirPods 4 last up to 30 hours with periodic charging in the case, the same as AirPods Pro 2. However, AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation have a shorter battery life, lasting up to 20 hours.
In terms of listening time on a single charge (without the case), AirPods Pro 2 come out ahead.
AirPods 4 last up to 5 hours without ANC. With ANC activated, the battery life drops to 4 hours. In contrast, AirPods Pro 2 offer up to 6 hours without ANC and 5.5 hours with ANC.
Either way, this is more than enough for most daily use, like listening to music during your commute or taking calls.
Both models charge quickly. Just 5 minutes in the case gives an extra hour of playback time.

Controls and Volume Adjustment
Both models are easy to control with built-in sensors. By pressing the earbuds, you can play, switch, or pause music. In addition, both versions of AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 support gesture control. To answer a call, simply nod your head. Want to reject the call? Shake your head from side to side.
AirPods 4
AirPods Pro 2 have an exclusive feature – touch volume control. To adjust the volume, simply swipe along the stem of the earbud. AirPods 4 do not have this function.

Conclusion: AirPods 4 or AirPods Pro 2?
It all depends on your preferences and what you’re used to. Both models share the same H2 chip, so sound quality is similar. However, AirPods Pro have silicone tips that provide a tighter fit, making the bass more powerful.
Both AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 feature spatial audio and noise cancellation, but the closed design of the Pro version offers better sound isolation. If you often travel on public transport or walk around the city, you won’t need to turn the volume all the way up in the Pro version.
Both models are water-resistant with an IP54 rating, so you can wear them during workouts.
If you prefer the earbud style, it’s worth buying the Apple AirPods 4 at iSpace, especially since you can get the version with active noise cancellation. If in-ear “plugs” are comfortable for you, consider the AirPods Pro 2: they have exclusive control features and soon, additional hearing protection features.
The price of AirPods 4 depends on the model: the non-ANC version is more affordable.
