Tired of training alone? Want to see what you’re capable of and get your friends involved in an exciting adventure? Turn your ordinary workouts into a real competition with an impartial judge in the form of an Apple Watch. We’ll tell you how to organize a marathon, win it, and even get rewarded.
How to invite friends
To start, suggest to your friends to exchange their sports achievements through the “Activity” app on Apple Watch. It’s simple:
- Open the app.
- Immediately on the main screen, find the “Invite a friend” option (a circle with silhouettes of two people).
- Scroll the Digital Crown to select friends with whom you want to share your most intimate results.
- Choose a contact and tap on the friend’s name.
It’s nice that you don’t have to limit yourself to just two or three friends, or even a dozen. The app allows data exchange among 40 friends, colleagues, and family members, provided they agree, of course. As you close activity rings, set records, and receive Apple Watch awards, all subscribers will immediately find out about it. And you’ll learn about their achievements: this motivates you to get up and move.
Three Apple Watch rings
Let’s see what data you can exchange. Apple Watch meticulously collects all information about daily activity and then presents it in the form of three rings.
Red ring: “Movement”
Shows how many calories you burned during the day. The app calculates only those calories that were spent in motion. For example, when you climbed stairs, walked to the store, did housework, walked the dog, or warmed up – in other words, moved.
The daily norm is usually set during the initial watch setup. The calorie norm is easy to calculate using online calculators. Every week, the Apple Watch app will suggest new goals to gradually increase activity and boost motivation.
To set a workout goal on Apple Watch:
- Just open the “Fitness” app, select the button with an image resembling an audio track (many vertical lines of different heights).
- Scroll down to the “Change goals” section.
- Tap on “+” or “-” (or use the crown), choose a goal, tap “Next,” and confirm the action (OK).
Green ring: “Exercise”
Filled in during physical activities and shows how energetically you spent the day. Apple developers suggest considering any type of sports activity: fast walking, cycling, running, gym workouts, swimming. The daily goal can be achieved with just a 30-minute workout. This is the minimum required for maintaining health, improving sleep, and reducing stress.
Blue ring: “Stretches”
The less we sit, the better our well-being and mood will be. The blue ring fills up when you get up from your chair and move for at least a minute. To fully fill the ring with blue color, you need to get up at least 12 times a day. By the way, with a slight vibration, the watch will remind the owner that it’s time to get up from the chair. To do this, simply activate the “Stretch reminder” option.
To set up reminder messages, you need to:
- Go to “Settings” on the watch itself.
- Choose the “Activity” app on Apple Watch and set up notifications.
Important: In the app, you can specify if the owner is moving in a wheelchair. Then the ring’s name will change to “In motion,” and the system will count physical activity.
To view your achievements and statistics, simply scroll the Digital Crown until you reach the results of each activity ring: total number of steps, distance for the day, number of flights climbed, and so on. By the way, you can do this on iPhone too: the data in the app synchronizes.
Did you complete the ring for the second time? You’re doing great because you’ve achieved the set goal and exceeded expectations. You can set bigger goals for yourself, while your friends envy you.
How are your friends doing?
If a friend agrees to share data, you can view their results on your watch. To do this:
- Open the “Activity” app.
- Go to the friends list.
- Scroll down using the Digital Crown to find the desired contact.
- Tap on the name and get the competitor’s daily statistics.
I want to challenge a friend. How to do it?
One of the best ways to boost your motivation and support a friend in their efforts is to hold a competition. For a whole week, you will earn points: up to 600 points per day or up to 4200 for the week. The winner at the end of the marathon is the one who accumulates the most points. While you compete, the apps compare performances and send messages about what your opponent has achieved.
To starting a competition:
- Open the “Activity” app.
- Go to the friends list (button with two figures) and select the name of the friend you want to compete with.
- Scroll the Digital Crown down and press the “Start” button.
- Tap “Invite (friend’s name)” and wait for their reaction.
Cups, medals, certificates – what will the winner get?
Virtual rewards help to maintain motivation. As soon as you win in a competition or set a personal record, the app gives you a virtual badge.
Here’s how to find out your rewards and learn the conditions for receiving other prizes:
- Open the app.
- Tap the hexagon with a ribbon.
- Press on the award categories, for example, “Monthly Challenges,” and tap on the badge that interests you to find out how to get it.
Disabling sharing and turning off notifications
Opting out of data sharing is as easy as setting it up. To do this, go to the “Activity” app, enter the contacts section, touch the friend’s name, scroll the crown down, and choose one of the suggested actions:
- The watch will no longer send messages with statistics and your achievements.
- Your friend won’t be able to view your results at their discretion.
- This completely severs the connection between the apps.
Training together is more exciting. And if your friend is also outperforming you, motivation instantly increases, so set up activity settings on Apple Watch, share achievements with your loved ones, and organize real marathons.
