Large Display and Design
The iPhone 18 Pro Max features a 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with impressive specifications:
- resolution — 2868 × 1320 pixels;
- pixel density — 460 ppi;
- refresh rate — 1–120Hz with ProMotion technology.
Typical brightness reaches up to 1,000 nits, increasing to 1,600 nits when viewing HDR content and up to 3,000 nits outdoors. This makes even small text and fine details easy to see on sunny days. The large display also provides plenty of space for photo editing, creating videos for social media, gaming, and working with documents, with sharp visuals and comfortable viewing.
Dynamic Island is now slightly smaller, providing more usable screen space. Despite its reduced size, it offers expanded functionality and can now display up to three Live Activities simultaneously.
The smartphone features an aluminum body, Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, and Ceramic Shield on the back. Its weight has increased slightly to 249 g, compared to 233 g for the previous generation. However, its dimensions remain unchanged at 163.4 × 78 × 8.75 mm.

iPhone 18 Pro Max Cameras and Zoom
The new iPhone 18 Pro Max features an upgraded camera system with three lenses, including a new variable aperture on the main camera. Six blades inside the lens adjust their position, giving you greater control over the amount of light entering the camera and the depth of field. Four aperture settings are available: ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8, and ƒ/4.0.
By adjusting the settings in the Camera app, you can capture excellent photos in different lighting conditions. Background blur is now controlled optically, eliminating the problem of harsh transitions in Portrait mode, where individual strands of hair or eyeglass frames could blend into the background. If you prefer not to deal with manual adjustments, simply enable Auto mode. The camera will automatically analyze lighting conditions and adjust the aperture to capture excellent photos.
The front camera remains unchanged: an 18MP Center Stage camera. It keeps you centered in the frame when recording videos or making video calls. For group selfies, it automatically adjusts the framing to fit everyone into the shot. Dual Capture also lets you record using two cameras simultaneously. All these features were introduced last year.
The new Apple Reference Image feature creates a reference photo that you can use to prove an image was captured with a physical camera rather than generated by AI or edited in Photoshop.
The smartphone supports video recording in the following formats: 4K at 120 fps in Dolby Vision, ProRes RAW, and Apple Log 2. Another new feature lets you apply the Cinematic effect to videos you’ve already recorded.
Battery Life of the New iPhone
The smartphone sets a new record for battery life, offering up to 45 hours of video playback (for the eSIM version). By comparison, the previous-generation Pro Max offers up to 39 hours, while the new iPhone 18 Pro delivers up to 36 hours.
Fast charging has also improved on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. With a 60W power adapter, the battery can reach 50% charge in just 15 minutes. This means that only five minutes of charging provides enough power for up to six hours of video playback.
Performance and Capabilities of the New Chip
The iPhone 18 Pro Max features the new A20 Pro chipset with a 6-core CPU and a 7-core GPU equipped with Neural Accelerators. The Dual Neural Engine provides a total of 32 cores for machine learning tasks. Compared to the previous generation, GPU performance has increased by 40%, while memory bandwidth is 50% higher.
Apple engineers have redesigned the internal layout, positioning the vapor chamber close to the chipset and memory. Its surface area has also tripled. As a result, the smartphone maintains stable temperatures and screen brightness, even during extended gaming sessions.
The smartphone comes with iOS 27 pre-installed and supports the next generation of Apple Intelligence and the completely redesigned Siri AI. The intelligent assistant can now understand personal context and recognize what’s happening on your screen. For example, you can ask it to edit a photo or find a hotel booking confirmation email in your inbox.
