Mac mini M6: What’s New?
The M6 chip was built with the growing demand for AI in mind. Its CPU now has 12 cores, two more than the previous generation. The GPU is also more powerful, with 12 cores instead of 10. For the first time, Apple has added Neural Accelerators to the GPU to help speed up AI workloads.
Memory bandwidth has increased to 170 GB/s, allowing the system to move data faster and handle demanding tasks more efficiently.
Mac mini M5 Pro for Demanding Work
The professional model features a CPU with up to 18 cores and a GPU with up to 20 cores. The graphics cores also include Neural Accelerators, helping speed up photo and video enhancement and improving performance when working with large AI models.
Mac mini with M5 Pro supports up to 64GB of unified memory and memory bandwidth of up to 307 GB/s. This makes it easier to work with large 3D scenes, edit ProRes video, run AI models on device, and process large datasets.
Ports and Connectivity
The port selection is almost identical on both models. The compact enclosure includes:
- three Thunderbolt ports (Thunderbolt 4 on M6, Thunderbolt 5 on M5 Pro);
- two USB‑C ports;
- an HDMI port;
- 2.5Gb Ethernet, with an optional 10Gb Ethernet upgrade.
Both versions support up to three displays. Wireless connectivity is handled by the Apple N1 chip with support for Wi‑Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
